“I got off work and I was kind of excited about getting to go home. So, I took off and I came down there, down the street here, and I saw the water in the road. I saw a car go before me and it made it okay. And I waited till it got to the next block. And then I thought, okay, I think that’ll be okay for me. And it was unbelievably how fast that creek got just in like five minutes. That street that was full of water. And I got my car about halfway up the block and it just shut off.”

“I couldn’t even think what was going on. It happened so fast to me and scared the life out of me because nothing like that ever happened. And I apologized because I’m not from here. So, I didn’t realize how the streets were, you know, I didn’t know that possibly could be that deep. So, I apologize to everyone that tried to help me get out of that thing. And then I came back down here and the things floating away.”

“Scared, lifeless. And I’m not scared of hardly anything. But that scared me because I’m like, okay, chick what do you do now? You know, I didn’t know what to do. But then about that time, the officer knocked on the window and said, come on, I’m here. I’m here to get you out of there.”

“It’s heartbreaking because I know that, you know, along this river, we have a lot of wonderful, stores, and, we have this neighborhood store up the street, this tobacco barn, and all of those people have to get all their stuff out. I mean, it’s just, there’s this to be a major cleanup. This is taking out all of Biltmore Village, high end stores, restaurants, people are going to be they’re going to be we’re going to be cleaning up a long time.”

“I just I’m hoping that some of those folks that are, unhoused that are getting some, some help. You know, Asheville is a it’s a great place to live. And, we have a lot of great resources for folks. And, I’m hoping that everybody stay safe and don’t drive a car in any kind of water because, it does. The cars float.”
