"As Arab and professional institutions, we protested by raising the flags of Palestine and Lebanon alongside the Iraqi flag. This was to affirm our solidarity with our brothers in Lebanon and Palestine in defending their legitimate rights, and to ensure that the Zionist entity (Israel) does not take more than it already has. In the coming days, we will also launch a campaign to raise funds to support our brothers in these countries that have been harmed."

STORYLINE:
Palestinian and Lebanese flags were hung in parts of Baghdad as Iraqis showed solidarity with the two peoples following the recent Israeli strikes in Lebanon and Gaza.
Iraq has so far sent two planes carrying medical aid to Lebanon after the Israeli attacks in the past two weeks and has offered to send more help.
“We will also launch a campaign to raise funds to support our brothers in these countries that have been harmed,” said Jawad al-Shehilli from the Iraqi Intellectuals Union in Baghdad.
Since Monday, heavy Israeli airstrikes across different parts of Lebanon have killed more than 690 people and wounded over 2,000 others claiming to be targeting Hezbollah facilities.
Hezbollah in turn has fired hundreds of rockets into Israel, saying they are targeting Israeli military positions. Several people in Israel have been wounded.
Rahim Izzat, a Baghdad resident, called on the United Nations to solve the conflict.
“If this conflict continues, it will threaten to engulf and destabilize the entire region,” he said.
Israel launched a massive military offensive in Gaza following the Hamas-led attack into southern Israel on Oct. 7 in which some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, were killed, and some 250 were taken hostage.
The Israeli campaign has killed more than 41,000 Palestinians in Gaza, according to local officials.
