Civil war in Sudan leaves up to 150,000 dead so far | DW News

In Sudan, the army has launched artillery and air strikes on Khartoum in its biggest operation since the start of the war against the Rapid Support Forces, or RSF. The army lost control of the capital early on and has been unable to dislodge the RSF, which has also made advances in other parts of the country. The 17-month war has driven more than 10 million people from their homes, many to neighbouring countries, and caused extreme hunger and famine. A day earlier, UN secretary general Antonio Guterres voiced concern over ‘escalation’ to the country’s army chief, who is in New York for the UN General Assembly. Delegates in New York also heard testimony from a Sudanese activist about conditions in the refugee camps.
