STORYLINE:
Georgia is one of seven battleground states and virtually a must win in the presidential election. Biden took the state by less than 12,000 votes in 2020, the second smallest margin of victory behind Arizona. The turnout of people eligible to vote was 66.3 percent, according to the Center for Inclusive Democracy with the lowest turnouts amongst Black and Latino voters.

The state was the center of controversy with Trump and his allies claiming trickery, filing a court challenge and directly attempting to sway the outcome of the race. Those efforts have resulted in a criminal case that is now delayed.

They also have led to efforts by some Republican Trump allies who have sought changes aimed at redressing complaints fueled by Trump’s false claims of fraud. That includes requiring a hand count of all ballots cast. Another change requires homeless voters to use the address of the county voter registration office rather than where they live, which could add to the impoverished non-voter numbers.
