Explosions heard in Beirut after Israel’s PM Netanyahu vows to keep fighting Hezbollah | BBC News

Explosions have been heard in Beirut after Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to keep fighting Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Netanyahu said Israel would "not rest" until its residents could return to the north, telling world leaders at the UN: "We are winning".

He also warned Hezbollah’s backer Iran that there was "no place in Iran that the long arm of Israel cannot reach".

Israel says it aims to remove Hezbollah’s threat, and return displaced people back to northern Israel. Hezbollah, backed by Iran, says it is acting in solidarity with Palestinians.

Nearly 800 people have been killed in Israeli strikes in Lebanon since Monday, local officials said.
