"Musicals are made for families, musicals are romantic adventures and stories. So we are definitely into that line. But we have that twist that all good musicals have that they are political. ‘Hair’ is political. ‘Starmania’ is political. ‘West Side Story’ is political. All these amazing musicals are political. They are talking about subjects, the characters are real. So we’re right in the middle of it."

"Two days after we announced the show, we were very hyped. You know, we were very happy to say, ‘Okay, we’re going to officially announce it and it’s going to be a beautiful show and it’s going to be a beautiful party’ and everything. Two days later, we had the video of Nahel, you know, that the kid who got shot by a policeman. So, we came back down on Earth and we realized that, yes, we know why we’re doing this. It is for him, it’s for all the victims that suffered that kind of violence since so many years."

We’re trying to solve the questions that the movie raised and trying to say, ‘Okay, we’ve been thinking about it for 30 years, maybe now it’s time to have solutions.’ And, you know, we think that the solution is love, but it’s very difficult to get there. So that’s what the show is, it’s how to get to stop hating and start loving."

"There’s also, let’s say, the opposite of the musical’s title, because there’s also a lot of love in the ‘hood. Otherwise we’d all be shooting at each other. You see that it’s three buddies living in a complicated context, and you forget the context as you watch the film. You forget that these guys, there was a case of police brutality and one guy from their neighborhood got wacked by policemen. They manage to make us forget that. So you grow attached to them because they laugh in their misery and that’s all they have. You live that kind of life, the best is to laugh about it."
