3. SOUNDBITE (Ukrainian) Andrii Sybiha, Ukrainian Foreign Minister:
“First of all, we are grateful for this historical decision. It is very important in consolidating Ukraine’s defence. It is a shield not only for Ukraine but for all Europe. We have many cases of air trespassing of NATO countries by Russian rockets or drones. This system, especially during winter time, will help strengthen our defence of the energy sector. And as you can see, now, Russian efforts aim to prevent us from producing electricity during winter. These steps are very important. I’d like to add that these rockets and drones strikes pass or fall near nuclear sites and they are very dangerous. I’d like to kindly ask our Romanian partners to analyse the possibility of downing the Russian rockets and drones that come near Romanian air space.”

5 SOUNDBITE (Romanian) Luminita Odobescu, Romanian Foreign Minister:
“We underlined the importance of maintaining the engagement in the complex agenda of reforms needed for the European path of Ukraine, one that will bring only benefits for Ukraine and its citizens. It’s fundamental to continue the reforms and to make them sustainable. These are relevant both in the accession process into the EU but also for making Ukraine a resilient state from all points of view. I told my counterpart about Romania’s full availability to share our experiences during the EU accession negotiations.”

STORYLINE:
Ukraine’s foreign minister welcomed onWednesday Romania’s decision to send Patriot batteries to its aid defences.

‘’We are grateful for this historical decision. It is very important in consolidating Ukraine’s defence. It is a shield not only for Ukraine but for all Europe,’’ Andrii Sybiha said during a joint presser with Romania’s foreign minister Luminita Odobescu.

Sybiha also encouraged Romania to "analyse the possibility of downing the Russian rockets and drones that come near Romanian air space.”

Several drones fell on Romanian soil lately, generally in remote areas in the extreme east, near the border with Ukraine in the Danube Delta.

During same news conference, Odobescu said that Romania remains committed to helping Ukraine in all aspects, especially on its path towards EU membership.

"It’s fundamental to continue the reforms and to make them sustainable. These are relevant both in the accession process into the EU but also for making Ukraine a resilient state from all points of view. I told my counterpart about Romania’s full availability to share our experiences during the EU accession negotiations,” she said.
