A cat aptly named Drifter is safe at home after sneaking outside and getting trapped in a sewer for nearly eight weeks.
The 3-year-old tabby went missing from his Minnesota home on July 18. His owners presumed that he went to check out the construction underway in their neighborhood at some point.
Neighbor kids came over and said the family they heard meowing coming from a storm drain at the construction site and eventually rescued and were reunited with Drifter.
Drifter had been a “strong and formidable” 15 pounds when he went missing and was weighed at 6.5 pounds at the emergency vet after his rescue, but was “otherwise completely himself” and recovering under veterinary instructions, according to his owner.
