STORYLINE:
Among the big highlight of Mexico’s Independence Day parade Monday for many was witnessing outgoing President Andrés Manuel López Obrador participate in the celebration.

Mexico’s outgoing president oversaw the raising of a giant Mexican flag and rode in an open car among the troops during Mexico’s annual Sept. 16 military parade.

Mexico marks its national day on Sept. 16, the day after the cry for independence.

"It is the first time I have come (to this parade)," said Claudia Cárdenas, a nurse. "We wanted to come precisely because it is the last parade of President Andres Manuel (López Obrador), and well we thought it was excellent."
