STORYLINE:
Germany has extended temporary border controls to all nine of its external frontiers, in what the German government said was a crack down on irregular migration and crime following recent extremist attacks.
The border controls – announced last week – are set to last six months and are threatening to test European unity.
In the city of Kehl, along the border with the French city of Strasbourg, police were seen stopping long distance passenger coaches early Monday.
