STORYLINE:
Indonesian President-elect Prabowo Subianto met with Vietnamese leaders on Saturday during a trip to boost ties between the two Southeast Asian nations.
Subianto, who also serves as Indonesia’s defence minister, held separate meetings with
Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man.
On Friday, Subianto met with Vietnamese President To Lam, where he committed to enhancing the the countries cooperation with Vietnam and to upgrade relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
Subianto also expressed his condolences to Vietnam for the casualties caused by Typhoon Yagi, which has killed 233 people.
Vietnam and Indonesia cooperate on various areas, including on energy.
Both countries have been pledged billions of dollars by the Group of Seven (G7) advanced economies to help transition away from fossil fuels as part of a Just Energy Transition Partnership.
