STORYLINE:
Pope Francis denounced the killing of children in the Israeli military operation in Gaza, calling it "ugly" on Friday during his flight back to Rome.
"When you see that, under the presumption that some guerrillas are there, a school is bombed, this is ugly," he said.
He added that both Israel and Hamas are not "taking steps" to reach a peaceful resolution of the war, as Palestinians civilians continued to suffer.
Francis wrapped up his visit to Singapore on Friday, finishing his four-nation trip through Asia with the same message of tolerance that he delivered at the start.
Separately, he denied reports that he will be visiting Paris in December to attend the Notre-Dame Cathedral’s reopening ceremony, following the devastating 2019 fire.
When asked by a reporter about Abbe Pierre, French priest and lifelong advocate of the homeless, Francis condemned his behaviour.
Pierre was accused of committing acts of sexual assault by seven women, including one who was a minor at the time.
Francis described the topic as "painful," and "very delicate".
He stressed that "even though he (Pierre) did so much good, you see that this person was a terrible sinner".
Francis emphasized that "sexual abuse of children and minors is a crime, it is a disgrace".
