2. SOUNDBITE (English) Alan Hill, Atlanta resident:
"We need facts. We need figures. We need to know what the platform is. I don’t think. Well, first of all, the average American citizen, we’re not stupid and we’re not a monolith. We are. We have, we have things that we need that we’re interested in that we need to know."
3. Group of people watching debate
4. SOUNDBITE (English) Alan Hill, Atlanta resident:
"So I would I would give tonight’s debate probably probably a C on both people. I think Donald Trump was a little bit more demure in terms of the of what we’ve seen in the past. I think Harris was not quite everything that I would have liked to have seen her do and stay on task and bring the fire to Donald Trump the same way he tried to bring the fire to her. Answer the question."
5. People watching debate
6. SOUNDBITE (English) Michael Joseph, 26, Atlanta resident, Voting for Harris:
"I mean, it’s telling of someone’s character. You see, you’ve seen the same act over and over again by Trump. It’s like a child that is being told, no, I can’t have that 99 cent piece of candy. Whereas you see, with Harris, I had the confidence that if she came out strong, it’s her debate to win. She had everything to win. The people that are going to vote for Trump, they’re going to vote for Trump. But people want to believe in common ground and what it means to be in American. They’re going to pay attention like I am."
7. People watching debate react, laugh and smile
8. SOUNDBITE (English) Michael Joseph, 26, Atlanta resident, Voting for Harris:
"I didn’t realize she was a gun owner. And as someone that believes, that grew up going to public schools and sees the violence of guns. But it’s also good to know that she believes in pragmatic solutions."
9. Wide, people in room watching debate
10. SOUNDBITE (English) Alida Hines, Atlanta resident:
"I felt the vice president did a better job in explaining her plan for us. That’s what I’m looking for, candidates to give me a plan of how my life will be better, how our families, will be better, how committees can me better. And so I look for candidates who give specifics because I need them to go in with a plan"
11. Hines, Joseph and another person watching debate
12. SOUNDBITE (English) Alida Hines, Atlanta resident:
"But I’m glad she brought those points. Like she mentioned, as weirdly as, the points about the dogs. I can’t believe this happened in Ohio. And that a person running for president will mention that because it is totally AI, it’s debunked. It’s not factual. It’s not happening. So when I hear facts and truth and plans, that’s what I’m excited about."

STORYLINE:
A group of Atlanta residents gathered on Tuesday night to watch the presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. The group largely, but not entirely, gave the better reviews to Harris.
"I would give tonight’s debate probably a C on both people," Atlanta resident Alan Hill commented. "I think Donald Trump was a little bit more demure in terms of the of what we’ve seen in the past. I think Harris was not quite everything that I would have liked to have seen her do and stay on task and bring the fire to Donald Trump the same way he tried to bring the fire to her."
Hill also said he wants candidates to give specific facts, figures and explanations of their platforms, commenting "the average American citizen, we’re not stupid."
She felt Harris gave better explanations.
