"I think he (Donald Trump) had a fine night. This was a night that was absolutely necessary. And I am so happy we finally got to see these two people on the stage. I wish we had two more debates. We usually have three presidential debates. Kamala Harris has said she only wants one so far. Donald Trump would certainly be willing to do another presidential debate. (Reporter asks question about moderators.) I think it was right that we felt like it was an attack session on Donald Trump. I think he had a lot of great points, a lot of great things to say. He had to hold Kamala Harris accountable because unfortunately didn’t feel like they did a whole lot of that."

"I think Trump did a great job of outlining what we all know is his record. Again, this is a very unusual presidential campaign. Both candidates have been in the White House. For the first time in 100 years, we have a candidate who has a record as president. And that record with stable prices, higher wages, a secure border in a peaceful, stable world. With Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, everything has gone to hell. Prices are at record highs. Wages are stagnant. The border is wide open. Illegal immigrants are flooding our country and we have war breaking out all around the world."

STORYLINE:
Less than two months from Election Day and hours before the first early ballots will begin to be mailed Wednesday in Alabama, the presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump offered the clearest look yet at a race that has been repeatedly upended.
Republican and Democratic surrogates spoke to reporters after the first and perhaps only debate before the presidential election.
Lara Trump said Donald Trump "had a fine night," while Democratic Senator Tammy Duckworth said Harris "clearly won the debate tonight."
Harris pressed a forceful case against Trump on Tuesday, repeatedly goading him in an event that showcased their starkly different visions for the country on abortion, immigration and American democracy.
The Democratic vice president provoked Trump with reminders about the 2020 election loss that he still denies, delivered derisive asides at his false claims and sought to underscore the Republican former president’s role in the Supreme Court’s overturning of a national right to abortion two years ago. Trump tore into Harris as too liberal and a continuation of Biden’s unpopular administration, as he launched into the sort of freewheeling personal attacks and digressions from which his advisers and supporters have tried to steer him away.
