“Probably the secret recipe would be to break the ice a little bit more, so keep inviting brands, because everyone is here from a commercial standpoint, but it’s more an expert than an actual understanding of the local market, local culture, localization really. And, yeah I think that’s going to come, but it’ll take time.”

“And I would love to have some of these young designers come join us, work with us for a while, maybe we can transfer the knowledge of thousands, couple of thousand years of fashion making, and then they can transfer new ideas, new ways of looking at things, so, I mean that’s something that we wanted to do.”

“Roberto actually stopped designing already 10 years ago but his legacy is very strong. So we still have massive archives of his creations, massive archives of prints, we have more than 30,000 prints and 90% were never used, so we still have a huge legacy from him.”

STORYLINE:
The head of fashion giant Roberto Cavalli says he believes Dubai will eventually break into the fashion scene, but it will take time.
Sergio Azzolari, the CEO of the Italian fashion house, was speaking after their show at Dubai Fashion Week, which was the closing show.
“So I think Dubai can be a fashion capital … but I think there is the need to express more local or regional ideas.”
This is the first time Cavalli has had a show in the United Arab Emirates, and Azzolari said although the brand faced some challenges, it was successful overall.
Azzolari said Dubai needs to “express more local or regional ideas” and encouraged young designers from the UAE to go and work with them in Italy.
“I would love to have some of these young designers come join us, work with us for a while, maybe we can transfer the knowledge of thousands, couple of thousand years of fashion making,” he said.
The collection featured many different prints and fabrics, the common thread between all the designs is “a woman who can express herself.” The colorful fabrics were inspired by Venetian glass, cowboys, roses and nature.
Roberto Cavalli died in April at age 83 but Azzolari said "we still have massive archives of his creations."
