‘Condoms can’t be trusted’ – Paraguay’s first sex-ed plan worries health educators | DW News

Paraguay is adding sex-ed to its education curriculum for the first time ever. But the plan has health educators worried: it sows doubt over the effectiveness of condoms and perpetuates sexist stereotypes like "boys don’t cry easily" and "girls don’t like taking risks."

Condoms have repeatedly been shown to be highly effective in preventing unwanted pregnancies and the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases, when used correctly.

But many in the largely Catholic nation are in favor of the abstinence-first program.
