"The club tells us that for the people of Palestine we are like a national team, their national team. They watch the games on giant screens. I don’t know if they do it now because of the conflict they are going through, but before this conflict happened, they showed us when they watched our games on a giant screen. And that gives you that extra motivation that many people are looking out for you, not just your family. And it makes you want to leave everything on the field for those people who are suffering."

"Being a Palestino fan, lately, is complicated, complicated. Although one is Chilean, one has friends, friends who are right here, who are from the (Palestinian) colony, and tell us about the pain suffered by the people because of Zionism. It makes me sad and angry. But, well, we are here to show a little bit of joy to send to these suffering people."
STORYLINE:
El Club Deportivo Palestino de Chile nació el 20 de agosto de 1920, fundado por miembros pioneros de la colonia palestina que empezaba a asentarse en Chile. Ganador de cinco títulos oficiales y figura habitual en torneos continentales, las permanentes muestras de apoyo a los territorios palestinos han alzado al cuadro como el máximo símbolo de un siglo y medio de vínculos entre el corazón del Medio Oriente y el país antártico, hogar de la mayor comunidad palestina fuera del mundo árabe.
Con la presencia de cuatro escuelas oficiales de fútbol para niños, en Ramallah, Belén y la Franja de Gaza – ésta actualmente inoperativa por el conflicto – y el patrocinio de Bank of Palestine, el club conquistó adeptos no solo entre los descendentes de palestinos en Chile sino también en suelo árabe, donde los partidos son ampliamente televisados por cadenas como Al Jazeera.
Y, desde el inicio del sangriento conflicto entre Israel y Hamás, que ya se ha cobrado la vida de más de 40.000 palestinos, se ha convertido también en el mensajero de las voces de esa comunidad, que se ha visto más unida que nunca en el país sudamericano.
