"We do not believe that only one Yemeni party cares for the Palestinian people; rather, Yemen and its people stand with Palestine. We also appreciate Russia’s role and its consistent stance in support of the Palestinian people. We believe that the escalating situation worsens developments in the region, affecting Yemen’s situation, its food security, as well as international traffic, safety and global trade. There is no benefit from these actions (Houthi attacks) in terms of supporting the people in Gaza, as nothing has reached them. Naturally, we need this escalation to end. The safety and stability of Yemen are in our interest, as are security and peace in the region. Additionally, there must be an immediate end to the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza."

STORYLINE:
Yemen’s foreign minister said Tuesday that Houthi attacks in the Red Sea have stalled progress for peace talks aimed at ending the country’s nearly decade-long civil war.
Speaking during a visit to Russia, Shaya Mohsin Zindani said the recent escalations "worsen developments in the region, affecting Yemen’s stability, food security, and international trade."
He made the remarks a joint news conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow.
He said Oman and Saudi Arabia had been helping Yemen create a road map addressing issues including including a truce, the re-export of oil, and the payment of salaries to employees in areas controlled by the Houthis.
"Unfortunately, the implementation or signing of this plan has stalled due to the escalation in the Red Sea by the Houthis," he said.
Yemen’s Houthi rebels have for months been carrying out a campaign targeting ships over Israel’s war in the Gaza Strip.
The attacks have disrupted a trade route through which $1 trillion in cargo typically passes each year.
The rebels maintain that they target ships linked to Israel, the United States or the UK to force an end to the war in Gaza.
But Zindani said that the attacks were of no benefit to the people of Gaza.
Yemen has been engulfed in civil war since 2014, when the Iranian-backed Houthis seized much of northern Yemen and forced the internationally recognized government to flee from the capital, Sanaa.
A Saudi-led coalition intervened the following year in support of government forces, and in time the conflict turned into a proxy war between Saudi Arabia and Iran.
