The German government is tightening security and asylum laws after last week’s deadly stabbing at a festival in Solingen, west Germany. Three people were killed and eight more wounded. The suspect is an asylum seeker from Syria whom the government failed to deport.
The attack is now fueling a debate in Germany over its immigration policies. The opposition CDU is calling it a national emergency. While the far-right Alternative for Germany party is looking to capitalize on the national debate to consolidate its position ahead of state elections taking place this weekend.
