STORYLINE:
Fighting and shelling resumed in central Gaza on Friday morning as mediators continued to push for a ceasefire deal that would end the 10-month war between Hamas and Israel.
Tank shelling and gunfire could be heard in a video filmed by the Associated Press, showing deserted streets and buildings near eastern Deir al-Balah.
Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmoud Bassal said Thursday night that 24 people were killed by Israeli military strikes throughout the day across the Gaza Strip.
