STORYLINE:
Thousands of protesters marched in Tel Aviv on Thursday demanding the Israeli government reach a deal for the release of hostages held in Gaza.

"Without them (the hostages), this country is not perfect. Without them, this country is falling apart,” said Yoni Levy, the father of hostage Naama Levy.

While the demonstration took place, international mediators met with Israeli negotiators in Doha for a new round of talks, hoping to advance into a cease-fire deal. Hamas is not attending the talks.

"We think it is the last chance to bring them home now,” said demonstrator David Shapiro.

The new round of talks aimed at halting the Israel-Hamas war and securing the release of scores of Israeli hostages, with a potential deal seen by the mediators as the best hope of heading off an even larger regional conflict.

The war was triggered by Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack, in which militants from Gaza stormed into southern Israel, killing around 1,200 people and abducting 250 others.

Israel says the militants are still holding around 110 hostages and the remains of more than 30 others.

The Health Ministry in Gaza announced on Thursday that more than 40,000 Palestinians have been killed in the Israel-Hamas war.
