STOXX 600 benchmark traded little changed at the European open on Monday. Shares in European defense firms including Rheinmetall tumbled after a report that Germany will no longer grant new requests for aid to Ukraine as the government seeks to rein in spending. All eyes will turn to the mountains of Wyoming this week for the Federal Reserve’s Jackson Hole symposium. Fed Chair Jerome Powell will speak on Friday about the economic outlook in a keynote address at 10 a.m. ET. On the US election, Kamala Harris spent Sunday on a bus tour through the battleground state of Pennsylvania, looking to grow the coalition that rallied around her candidacy. President Biden will headline Monday’s proceedings in Chicago, kicking off a week that will see top party officials and celebrities laud the newly minted Democratic nominee.
