3. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Lin Jian, spokesperson of Chinese Foreign Ministry:
“The two sides need to jointly respond to threats and challenges of cyber security through dialogue and cooperation, instead of resorting to microphone diplomacy to smear and vilify the other one, or even working with other countries to spread disinformation on so-called Chinese hackers. We urge Germany to uphold strategic autonomy, take constructive and responsible manners, discard bloc confrontation and Cold War mentality and work with other countries to jointly uphold peace and security in cyberspace through dialogue and cooperation.”

5. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Lin Jian, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson:
“Lately, certain countries and media outlets have been playing up and asserting that there have been issues in the China-DPRK relationship or there’s a China-Russia contest over relations with the DPRK. These are ill-intentioned claims. Let me stress that both DPRK and Russia are China’s friendly neighbors. China is happy to see the DPRK and Russia grow their ties and play a constructive role in the peace and stability in the region.”

STORYLINE:
China on Thursday rejected Germany’s allegation that China was behind a cyberattack on its government agency in 2021.
An investigation has determined that “Chinese state actors" were responsible for a 2021 cyberattack on Germany’s national office for cartography, officials in Berlin said Wednesday.
In Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian called the accusation “anti-China political manipulation” and said the Chinese embassy in Berlin has also made a protest over the claim with the German government.
“We urge Germany to uphold strategic autonomy, take constructive and responsible manners, discard bloc confrontation and Cold War mentality and work with other countries to jointly uphold peace and security in cyberspace through dialogue and cooperation,” he said.
Germany’s attribution of the cyberattack is the latest case to reflect increasing tensions between Berlin and Beijing about potential security risks posed by China.
At the daily briefing, Lin also refuted recent reports that China and Russia were competing over relations with North Korea, saying those were “ill-intentioned.”
“Both DPRK and Russia are China’s friendly neighbors. China is happy to see the DPRK and Russia grow their ties and play a constructive role in the peace and stability in the region,” Lin said.
Separately, Lin appreciated India’s help to rescue an injured Chinese mariner near the country’s west coastal city of Mumbai recently.
“The Chinese side expresses its heartfelt appreciation to all relevant departments and personnel of the Indian side, who overcame the challenging conditions on the sea and successfully carried out this humanitarian rescue operation,” he said.
