Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman al-Safadi has made a rare visit to Iran as regional tensions rise. Iran has also held talks with several other Arab neighbors, including Egypt, Oman, and Qatar. The US and its allies in the region are lobbying hard to prevent a wider escalation of the conflict following Wednesday’s assassination of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, as well as Israel’s killing of top Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in Beirut. Israel has neither claimed responsibility for Haniyeh’s death nor denied it. On Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told his Cabinet that Israel is already in a "multi-front war" with Iran and its allies.
