STORYLINE:
Thousands of opposition supporters gathered in Caracas Tuesday for a peaceful rally as criticism of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro continues to mount over electoral authorities declaring him the winner in a presidential election that the opposition claims to have won by a landslide.
Protesters held large Venezuelan flags and signs with anti-Maduro messages.
Opposition candidate Edmundo González and opposition leader Maria Corina Machado waved at the large crowds as they arrived on top of a truck.
Opposition supporters have been taking to the streets after González announced that his campaign had the proof it needs to show he won the country’s disputed election.
Several foreign governments, including the U.S. and the EU, have held off recognizing the election results.
