STORYLINE:
Nine people were reported killed on Monday in a bus accident in the Peruvian region of Junin.
The bus, carrying members of a folkloric music group, drifted off the road in a rugged area and fell off a cliff.
Eleven others were injured and taken to the Felix Mayorca Soto Hospital in Tarma during the early hours of Monday.
The surveillance of road transport is weak In Peru and roadside assistance is slow and disorganized, according to experts who have been pushing for reform of road-safety laws.
In 2023 there were some 3,138 deaths resulting from traffic accidents, according to a police report.
