4. SOUNDBITE (Hebrew) Ella Ben Ami, whose father Ohad is in Hamas captivity:
"My father is in Hamas captivity, he was kidnapped with his underwear and a ripped t-shirt. He’s been there for so long and I simply miss him. I’m afraid that if it doesn’t happen now it will never happen. Now are the critical days, and after all, we will reach a deal in the end, even if it’s in five years or in ten years. The question is how many will we lose on the way, soldiers but also hostages. We can’t lose any more of them, not soldiers and not hostages."

"We are here now in front of the Kiria (Defense Ministry) base, in front of the place where all the people make decision. All the people that make decisions are here. And we are calling for the Prime Minister to seal this deal. The Defense minister and all the security services telling us this is the right moment to close this deal. If we won’t close it now, we cannot do it anymore. We cannot take them back alive and he must do it now for the future of this country, for the future of this community."

STORYLINE:
Hundreds of Israelis protested in Tel Aviv on Wednesday demanding that the Prime Minister close a deal and immediately explain his recent public statement where he said that "the hostages are suffering, but not dying."

An Israeli delegation has arrived in Egypt to continue cease-fire talks as Israel and Hamas consider the latest proposal.

That’s according to three Egyptian airport officials who didn’t give details.

International mediators continue to push Israel and Hamas toward a phased deal that would halt the fighting and free about 120 hostages held by the militant group in Gaza.

Talks between the sides were rattled over the weekend when Israel said it targeted Hamas’ military commander in a massive strike. His status remains unclear.

Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack sparked the war when militants stormed into southern Israel, killing some 1,200 people — mostly civilians — and abducting about 250.

Since then, Israeli ground offensives and bombardments have killed more than 38,600 people in Gaza, according to the territory’s Health Ministry. It does not distinguish between combatants and civilians in its count.
