"The current administration’s work style is that they prefer to resolve all issues from a position of power, including, first and foremost, world affairs. No one ever tries to seek compromises. It is either economic pressure in the form of sanctions, which the administration loves, or political pressure, or the direct use of force, military force. And now the violence has been moved to the inside of the country."

"We definitely don’t think or believe that the attempt to assassinate presidential candidate Trump was organised by the current (US) administration, but the atmosphere that this administration created over the course of political competition, the atmosphere around candidate Trump, it is this atmosphere that provoked what America is facing today."

"Russia has always condemned, and we strongly condemn, any manifestation of violence in political competition. We express our condolences to the family of the victim of this attack, and we also sympathise and wish a speedy recovery to all those who were injured."
STORYLINE:
Russia condemns all forms of violence during political competition the country’s presidential spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said on Sunday as he commented on the apparent assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump.
Peskov expressed his condolences to the family of the rally-goer killed in the incident on Saturday in Pennsylvania.
"We also sympathise and wish a speedy recovery to all those who were injured," he said.
Trump called Sunday for unity and resilience as shocked leaders across the political divide recoiled from the shooting that left him wounded but “fine” and the gunman and a rally-goer dead.
The presumptive Republican presidential nominee said the upper part of his right ear was pierced in the shooting. His aides said he was in “great spirits” and doing well.
"The atmosphere that this administration created over the course of political competition, the atmosphere around candidate Trump, it is this atmosphere that provoked what America is facing today," Peskov said of the attack.
"Now the violence has been moved to the inside of the country," he added.
He also said Putin was not scheduled to have any phone contact with Trump regarding the incident.
