STORYLINE:
A light and sound show projected onto a 15-meter-high replica of the Kukulcán pyramid – one of the most emblematic of Mayan civilisation – has been dazzling spectators in Mexico City.
Installed in the capital’s Central Plaza of El Zócalo, and featuring 40 dancers, the spectacle highlighted the cultural contributions of the ancient Mayans.
It also told the story of an important historical figure in the region – the former Yucatan governor Felipe Carrillo Puerto, who was committed to defending the rights of Mayan people.
For many in the audience, it was more than just a visual feast.
"Seeing this type of spectacle takes us to the history of before, as it was before. We feel what the past was like, it’s a beautiful emotion," said spectator Raul Romero Tenorio.
