An outcome of the hard work and dedication of our competent negotiators, the RAA brings our defense partnership to an unprecedented height. We also explored other measures to enhance and coordinate our defense and security policies.”

“Issues surrounding the South China Sea are a matter of legitimate concern to the international community that is directly linked to peace and stability in the region. Japan strongly opposes any attempt by force to unilaterally change the status quo in the South China Sea, or any act that increases tensions.”

“In particular, we shared serious concerns about acts that are escalating tensions in the region, including recent dangerous activities at the Second Thomas Shoal, and agreed to demand compliance with international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. Japan once again expresses its support for the Philippines’ commitment to peaceful resolution of disputes in the South China Sea.”
