STORYLINE:

Fighter jets and defence industry products are going on show at the Seoul Air Show 2001 in South Korea.

One hundred and sixty-seven companies from 16 countries are showcasing 54 models at the air show, including Boeing, Lockheed Martin, G-E, Airbus and Korean Air.

Although Boeing has been in recession, partly due to the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, it’s promising to improve its business.

The U-S company says it’s confident of winning the next generation fighter F-X project.

Boeing, the French company Dassault Aviation, the multi-European company Eurofighter International, and the Russian Rosvooruzhenie are competing fiercely for this project.

On Saturday, fighter jets, including Boeing’s F-16 and Dassault’s Rafale, staged fly-by demonstrations, while the Black Eagle performed acrobatic flights.

The R-O-K Air Force, the Korea Aerospace Industries association and the Korean Defence Industry Association are sponsoring the event to give Korea an opportunity to buy advanced technology.

Seoul Air Show 2001 officially begins on Monday at Seoul airport for a seven-day run.
