STORYLINE:
Inconsolable relatives of children killed in a strike in Central Gaza gathered around the bodies of their loved ones in the morgue of Al Aqsa hospital in Deir al Balah on Tuesday.

An Israeli airstrike killed five people, including four children, and wounded at least 10 others who were in a house in Maghazi refugee camp late Monday, hospital officials said.

Officials said the children were ages 4, 9, 13 and 16.

The mother and relatives of Zena Naser, the youngest of the victims, hugged her body wrapped in a white sheet while she sat outside the hospital.

Others were seen praying and crying near the five bodies before they were taken to be buried in a cemetery nearby.

Israel launched the war after Hamas’ October 7 attack, in which militants stormed into southern Israel, killed some 1,200 people — mostly civilians — and abducted about 250.

Since then, Israeli ground offensives and bombardments have killed more than 37,600 people in Gaza, according to the territory’s Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between combatants and civilians in its count.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said earlier this week he will only accept a partial cease-fire deal that would not end the 8-month-long war in Gaza, casting doubt on the viability of a U.S.-backed truce proposal.

International criticism is growing over Israel’s campaign as Palestinians face widespread hunger.

The war has largely cut off the flow of food, medicine and basic goods to Gaza, which is now totally dependent on aid.

The top United Nations court has concluded there is a “plausible risk of genocide” in Gaza — a charge Israel strongly denies.
