"It’s such a joy, I’m going to cry now. Let someone forget about the war even for a moment. Let someone forget for a second that they are bombing our Ukraine and let someone think for a second that when their husbands return, they will plant flowers together in their garden. We’re endlessly grateful."

STORYLINE:
Flower therapy is flourishing in Lviv, after the Netherlands gifted the Ukrainian city 100,000 tulip bulbs.
The bulbs, which were planted in December 2023, have now blossomed and the local council is hoping the flowers will be a comfort to residents coping with the continuing war.
Many of the tulips were planted next to city landmarks, such as the Heavenly Hundred Memorial – a place of honor for those who died during the Revolution of Dignity in 2014.
"We planted the bulbs of these tulips in December.
And in fact, it is such a miracle that in the spring they blossomed, as symbols of life, and in this space – the Heavenly Hundred Memorial – it is extremely symbolic," says Oksana Lutsko, deputy head of the ecology department of the Lviv City Council.
The tulips were planted in the most popular locations of the city, so that they could be admired by as many people as possible.
15 varieties of tulips in different colors were selected for each location.
In June, the tulip bulbs will be dug up, treated for pests and fungal diseases and stored until the next season.
