STORYLINE:
The South Korean and U.S. air forces held joint air drills in Gunsan, South Korea on Friday, where they practiced ways to detect and counter enemy threats.
"The specific missions we are training for include air interdiction, which is a strike mission if you will, also close air support and live fire training, where we are loading weapons and practicing employing the weapons on our ranges here in the Republic of Korea," confirmed Col. Michael G. McCarthy, Commander of 8th Operations Group.
South Korean pilot Kim Seong Joo stated the exercises reaffirmed a "strong South Korean and U.S. alliance."
Called ‘Korea Flying Training,’ the exercises began on April 12 and are scheduled to take place until April 26, with over 100 South Korean and U.S. air assets, including F-35s, participating.
