STORYLINE:
The German government said Friday that Ukraine can use German-supplied weapons against attacks launched from within Russia.
Senior government spokesperson Wolfgang Büchner said Russia has recently “carried out attacks from positions in the directly neighboring Russian border area."
“We are convinced that Ukraine has the right under international law to defend itself against these attacks,” Büchner told reporters in Berlin.
“It can also use the weapons supplied for this purpose in accordance with its international legal obligations, including those from Germany,” he added.
