STORYLINE:
Aid was air dropped over the Gaza Strip on Thursday morning as Israel’s offensive continued in the territory.
People rushed to the landing areas to try and get some of the aid that was dropped as plumes of smoke rose into the sky over the war-torn enclave.
The Israel-Hamas war has devastated Gaza’s urban landscape, displaced most of its population and sparked a humanitarian catastrophe and widespread hunger.
The war began when militants burst into southern Israel on Oct. 7, killing some 1,200 people, most of them civilians, and taking around 250 hostages.
More than 100 were released during a November cease-fire in exchange for Palestinians imprisoned by Israel.
Israel’s offensive in response to the attack has killed at least 36,096 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between fighters and civilians. Israel says it has killed 15,000 militants.
