STORYLINE:
Across Latin America people continued to pay tribute to Pope Francis after his death aged 88.

He is currently lying in state in the Santa Marta Domus in a private viewing for Vatican residents and the papal household.

In Ecuador, which Pope Francis visited in 2015, the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador set up a book of commemoration for people to sign.

“I think his style allowed the church to take a different step, a step towards peace, towards social justice, towards inclusion and I think it is very important that this vision is maintained, not only a vision that the church should review, but one that the world needs urgently," said Catholic worshipper Johana Heredia.

In Cuba, to honour Pope Francis, the Cuban government decreed an official mourning period from Tuesday at 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the 24th and ordered that the country’s flag be flown at half-mast in public buildings and institutions.

Cuban leader and former president Raul Castro released a message following the death of Pope Francis and called him a “dear friend” whom he will always carry in his “heart.”

The Automobile Museum in Old Havana honoured the late Pope by displaying one of the three Popemobiles to the public, which was used by Francis in 2015.
