STORYLINE:
A requiem mass for Pope Francis was held Tuesday at Bangkok’s Assumption Cathedral after the Pope died at the age of 88 on Monday.

A large portrait of Pope Francis, set among a floral arrangement, was placed at the front of the church and the mass drew a full crowd of faithful.

Vasunun Chumchua, a 55 year-old Catholic from Bangkok attending the mass said that Pope Francis was like "a grandpa" to her and he showed "compassion" and "mercy" to the poor or the "people that nobody sees."

Isara Pittayasiri, a 37-year-old mourner said that Pope Francis’ acts will serve as "a good example and a good memory," to continue life with his faith.

The mass was led by Bangkok Archbishop Francis Xavier Vira Arpondratana and the Pope’s second cousin Sister Ana Rosa Sivori, who has lived in Bangkok since 1966, was also in attendance.

Originally from Buenos Aires in Argentina, Sister Ana Rosa has worked as a missionary in several parts of the country and served as the Pope’s translator during his visit to Thailand in 2019.
