En una catedral que comenzó a llenarse poco después del amanecer en Buenos Aires, el arzobispo de la ciudad, Jorge Ignacio García Cuerva, dio una misa en homenaje a Francisco, el primer papa latinoamericano y originario de Argentina.
Gran parte de la catedral estaba llena de fieles. En los bancos se mezclaban jóvenes y ancianos. Algunos lloraban en silencio.
