"We were very surprised when we knew Pope Francis passed away. We were surprised, we knew he was sick, but yesterday he met the Vice President of United States, so we thought his health was better. And this morning, one day after Easter, he passed away, at least he has the opportunity to celebrate the resurrection of Christ."

So we wish that peace will finally come very soon in this land and we wish the next pope will be able to help to have peace in Jerusalem and in all the world."

"Well he was a very progressive pope. I think as a kid I always remembered him saying that dogs go to heaven, which was a big deal as a young child. I remember talking about that a lot in school. So hopefully we have someone who is equally as progressive or even more. I think that would be really great for the church."

STORYLINE:
The faithful at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem have been reacting to passing of Pope Francis.
Father Stephane Milovitch said he was surprised: "We knew he was sick, but yesterday he met the Vice President of United States, so we thought his health was better. And this morning, one day after Easter, he passed away, at least he has the opportunity to celebrate the resurrection of Christ."
The Vatican said Francis died at 7:35 a.m. Monday.
He had suffered from chronic lung disease and had part of one lung removed as a young man.
