STORYLINE:
The families of hostages held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip gathered along the border with the besieged territory on Sunday, shouting messages they hope will reach their captive loved ones.
"Do you hear me? It’s Ilana," the girlfriend of hostage Matan Zangauker shouted from a podium.
"I am alive and I am with you, fighting day and night and I won’t give up because I know too what you’re going through because I was there too," she called out.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel has “no choice” but to continue fighting in Gaza.
He says Israel will not end the war before destroying Hamas, freeing the hostages and ensuring that the territory won’t present a threat.
But he is under growing pressure at home after Israel resumed the war last month.
Frustration has been growing on both sides, with rare public protests against Hamas in Gaza and continued weekly rallies in Israel pressing the government to reach a deal to bring all hostages home.
Most of the hostages have been released in ceasefire agreements or other deals.
