STORYLINE:
The newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to Japan arrived in Tokyo Friday, saying he is confident that ongoing trade talks between the two countries would yield results, citing direct involvement from President Donald Trump.
Speaking at his first press conference in Japan shortly after his arrival in the country, George Glass said negotiations over tariffs were being prioritized at the highest levels of the U.S. government.
Glass, a businessperson and former ambassador to Portugal, was confirmed by the Senate earlier this month and is expected to play a key role in strengthening the U.S.-Japan alliance during shifting regional dynamics.
He also underscored the importance of security cooperation between the two countries, highlighting shared concerns over regional stability.
Glass framed the U.S.-Japan relationship as a cornerstone of regional peace and economic growth.
