"First, we remember how Jesus Christ gave to his apostles and to the Church at large the sacrament of his body and blood. And in the second place we remember how Jesus Christ made his apostles to be priests, to continue to celebrate the sacred mysteries. And in a third place we remember the great commandment when Jesus Christ showed, washed the feet of the apostles and he gave them the commandment to go and do the same, to follow his example, to love one another as he has loved us. So these are the great things that we commemorate as we celebrate this day."

6. SOUNDBITE (English) John James Joseph, pilgrim from U.S.:
"It’s a spiritual time, it’s a serious time. And it’s always holy. Now, the washing of the feet is something that Jesus did as a beginning of like, you know, it was a typical practice to do that before coming into a house, before having a meal. And a slave would do this but for Jesus himself, the master himself to do that, and to do that to Peter, to give an example, to be a servant."
