Many worldwide are in mourning Monday after the passing of Pope Francis. The pope’s death was announced on social media. He passed away at 1:35 a.m. ET, 7:32 a.m. in Vatican City. His death was a surprise because, despite being in poor health, Francis worked up to the end. On Easter Sunday, the pope appeared alert and engaged. One of his last meetings was with Vice President JD Vance, who converted to Catholicism in 2019. The pope died from a cerebral hemorrhage, his death certificate states.
