STORYLINE:
Circle Line, New York City’s popular sightseeing cruise, is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year.
To commemorate eight decades of showcasing the New York’s famous skyline from the water, the company announced on Wednesday a year-long celebration featuring special events, throwback pricing, and new cruise experiences which will begin to roll out this spring.
"Circle Line is New York. Circle Line celebrates the history and the love for our city. And we like to show that every day on our cruises with our tour guides. So we want people who are from New York or who are visiting to love the city just as much as we do," said Alexis Melendez, the Marketing Director for Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises.
According to the company it has welcomed over 85 million passengers aboard its vessels since its start in 1945. The views include iconic landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, and the Manhattan skyline.
To mark Circle Line’s 80th year, anyone who is also turning 80 – anyone born in 1945 – can enjoy a free sightseeing cruise this year. And on June 14th the company will offer a throwback ticket price.
Melendez said, "On June 14, our actual birthday, we are turning our original Best of New York Cruise, the one that used to sell 80 years ago to the original price of $2.50."
The nostalgic 2.5 hour cruises will fully circle Manhattan complete with vintage-inspired uniforms, 1940s boarding music, and retro menu designs that are meant to transport passengers back to Circle Line’s inaugural year.
