2. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Ahmed Mohsen, displaced resident from Gaza City:
"I don’t believe that, after the number of martyrs and injuries we have reached today, there will be a solution. And if there is a solution, it will not be one that matches the scale of the sacrifices made by the people, or the losses we have suffered due to the ongoing aggression on Gaza, which has now lasted for more than a year and a half. I don’t believe that there will be a deal that will be in the interest of the Palestinian people. And if there is an agreement, it will be against us, not in our interest."

4. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Ibrahim al-Qaoud, displaced resident from eastern Khan Younis:
"556 days and no one cares about us, whether Arab, foreign, American, or Israeli. We are people that they are called us steadfast. Steadfast for what? We have nothing (remaining) to endure (for). We have no food, no drink, nothing left."

6. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Mohammed Barbakh, displaced resident:
"We want international guarantees, especially from America, which Israel seeks protection from. We want guarantees from them that after they take their hostages, they will not return and kill us again. We want these guarantees. If they agree to this, fine. If not, leave us, we are dead, and let their hostages die with us. They are no better than us. We die, and they die like us."

8. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Ziad al-Shami, displaced resident from Rafah:
"The truce no longer means much to us, because we know what a truce is: a truce is the air force stops bombing. But I believe we will remain displaced in our places, with the same suffering and the same life. Nothing will change. All this destruction, which truce will fix it? This is just a small part of the destruction present in the Gaza Strip."

STORYLINE:
Palestinians in Gaza saw little hope in ongoing talks over a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, as strikes and mass displacement continue nearly a month after Israel broke a previous ceasefire agreement and resumed its military campaign.
Hamas officials held talks the past few days in Cairo with mediators over terms for a new truce deal.
Mediators are trying to put together further meetings in the Qatari capital Doha.
Hamas officials say a proposal has been put forward for it to release a number of hostages it holds.
But they say a major sticking point remained over whether the war would end as part of any new deal, with Israel reportedly offering only a temporary ceasefire.
In Gaza’s southern city of Khan Younis, Palestinians forced to move multiple times by Israeli strikes and evacuation orders said they doubted any good would come out of the talks.
“I don’t believe that there will be a deal that will be in the interest of the Palestinian people. And if there is an agreement, it will be against us, not in our interest,” said Ahmed Mohsen, who had been displaced from Gaza City.
Mohammed Barbakh said Palestinians needed U.S. guarantees that if hostages are released, Israel will “not return and kill us again.”
“If they agree to this, fine. If not, leave us, we are dead, and let their hostages die with us. They are no better than us. We die, and they die like us," he added.
Ziad al-Shami, who was forced to leave his home in Rafah, said "the truce no longer means much" to him.
