STORYLINE:
Londoners critical of Elon Musk smashed up a disused Tesla car that was due to be scrapped on Thursday.
At a public event staged by the group "Everyone Hates Elon", participants vented their frustration towards the Tesla owner with baseball bats and sledge hammers.
The organiser said the destroyed 2014 Tesla Model S will be auctioned to raise fund for food bank charities.
"My family is Ukrainian and there’s still some of them in Crimea which is occupied, and Elon Musk has done a really great job in helping it stay occupied," said Talia Denisenko, one of the participants. "I’m sure there are lots of people in Ukraine who would love to smash this car but they can’t, so I thought I’d do it."
The leading electric vehicle maker has faced a growing backlash from Musk’s embrace of right-wing politics and his role in the Trump administration.
Opponents have staged protests at Tesla showrooms in the U.S. and in Europe, where the sales decline have been steeper.
