"I work from home full-time and I have a view of the city, so I actually heard it before anything else, but it sounded like several gunshots in a row almost, in the air. So I turned and I looked out my window and I saw a helicopter and it looked like pieces were falling off. It happened so fast, I didn’t have time to get my camera or anything, but I watched it splash in several pieces into the river right outside my window."

STORYLINE:
A helicopter crashed Thursday into the Hudson River off Manhattan, authorities said. Six people have died in a helicopter crash in the crash, an Associated Press source says.
The fire department said it received a report of a helicopter in the water at 3:17 p.m. Dani Horbiak, an artist in Jersey City, New Jersey saw the copter fall from the sky after hearing what she described as loud bangs. "It sounded like several gunshots in a row almost," Horbiak said.
The crash happened in the river near Houston Street and the Holland Tunnel. The fire department said it had units on scene performing rescue operations. Videos posted on social media showed the aircraft mostly submerged, upside down in the water.
