STORYLINE:
One day before the end of the electoral campaigns in Ecuador for the presidential elections on April 13, the current president and candidate, Daniel Noboa, and the opposition candidate, Luisa Gonzalez, closed their campaigns on Wednesday in the capital, Quito, both with offers to change the country.
Leading massive rallies in different parts of the city, the candidates appealed with emotional speeches and offers with which they seek to capture every vote that can bring them victory after a tight technical tie in the first round of elections in February.
"And we are going to enforce our right to democracy and if the CNE (National Electoral Council) does not comply with its work and begins to prevent our observers, observers, delegate table observers from doing their work, we will know how to respond if necessary in the streets, because this people has already lost its fear." said presidential candidate Luisa Gonzalez of the Citizen Revolution, led by former President Rafael Correa (2007-2017), to hundreds of his supporters gathered in the rain in the populous neighborhood of Chillogallo, south of Quito.
Later, a more relaxed Noboa, in contrast to the first electoral round, and preceded by other militants of his movement, National Democratic Action, said "Today we take it for granted that we are the rival to beat, we are the ones who are on top and that on Sunday we are going to prove it."
The young politician completes the term of his predecessor, Guillermo Lasso, who anticipated the end of his government by dissolving the Assembly.
Noboa and Gonzalez will replay a presidential runoff on Sunday. More than a year ago, they faced each other for the first time at the polls where the results favored the current president. This time, Gonzalez seeks revenge.
