It’s a market that was worth 350 million euros ($386 million) last year, two-thirds of which is cheese. We export 25,000 tons of cheese every year to the United States, mainly Emmental and Brie. That market has doubled in 15 years."

STORYLINE:
The head of the French Dairy Federation warned on Wednesday of the impact the latest U.S. tariffs would have on the sector.
Speaking to The Associated Press, Francois-Xavier Huard said food price inflation in the U.S., combined with the new tariffs, was likely to have an even greater impact on cheese sales, including high-end varieties.
"It is expected to be in the tens of millions of euros," Huard said, insisting on the need for a response at EU level.
“The idea is that we have to react, but be careful not to overreact, as world trade is a highly inflammable matter.”
Huard said the U.S. market for French dairy products has doubled in the last 15 years.
“It’s a market worth 350 million euros ($386 million) last year, two-thirds of which is cheese,” he said.
“We export 25,000 tons of cheese every year to the United States, mainly Emmental and Brie.”
